A local man who killed two women in a drunk driving crash will not see the inside of a prison, according to federal court documents.

Maynard White Bear appeared in Great Falls Federal Court for sentencing Friday, April 9, 2021. White Bear pled guilty to two counts of involuntary manslaughter for a fatal crash that killed Natalie Long Hair, 41, and Valarie Youpee, 50, in 2019.

White Bear was sentenced to five years probation, with two years of house arrest.

Other conditions include no alcohol, drug use, or being able to drive a car ever again.

He will serve no jail time.

Allison Bighorn, relative of Long Hair, said the sentence is “slap in the face.”

“It feels like their lives are worth nothing.” Bighorn said.

She and other relatives appeared in Great Falls Federal Court to deliver victim impact statements

“Our family was given a death sentence and he won’t spend not even one day in jail,” she said. “Where’s the justice?”

On August 16, 2019, White Bear was drunk driving with Youpee and Long Hair as passengers.

Around 2 p.m., White Bear drove his vehicle eastbound on BIA Route No. 1, and tried to pass another vehicle traveling eastbound. White Bear swerved off the road, went airborne and crashed. All occupants were ejected from the car. Two women were killed, documents state.

Numerous witnesses, including a woman who saw White Bear driving at the time of the accident.
