Four people are facing murder charges in connection with the death of Wolf Point man.

Gifford Standing, 48, was found dead inside of an abandoned building in Wolf Point Wednesday, February 26, 2025. The Fort Peck Tribal Police provided this information. It was later determined that the cause of death was homicide. It was caused by another human being.

By the next Monday, law enforcement announced they had four people of interest in custody. They have been identified as Abrianne Deserley, Calvin Lester Jr., Dillon Wetsit, and Michael Menz.

Dillon Wetsit appeared in Fort Peck Tribal Court on Friday. He was arraigned on a charge of violating a restraining order. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to six months flat, with three months suspended. This means he will spend the next three months in jail.

The following Monday, Abrianne Deserley was also in Tribal Court, but she was charged with driving under the influence. She pleaded guilty and was also sentenced to 45 days flat.

Calvin Lester and Michael Menz are also being held in tribal custody.

The four suspects were not initially charged in connection with the death in Tribal Court. A probable cause hearing was held for all suspects. The court will set a formal arraignment date for the murder charges.

Standing’s death has shaken the Wolf Point community, which is still reeling from violent deaths in recent months. Standing’s corpse was found inside an empty building. A couple of months earlier, a Wolf Point man burned to death there.

In reaction to the death, community members organized a protest. They held a “stop the violence” protest in downtown Wolf Point last week. About 30 people carrying signs marched up and down the main streets of the town on Sunday, March 2, 2025.

The investigation is ongoing and being done by the Fort Peck Tribes Department of Law and Justice and the FBI.
