Two brothers are homeless after their family home was destroyed in a fire this past week.

On Friday, May 29, 2020, around 7 p.m., 911 Dispatch received a report of a fire on D Street West, just below Bluff Drive on the hill.

[ngg src=”galleries” ids=”2″ display=”basic_imagebrowser”]It is not sure how the fire started. Witnesses reported hearing a loud explosion as far away as TJ’s Quik Stop. It’s not known if the house was empty or not at the time.

The fire quickly turned into a blazing inferno with flames that could be seen from as far away as Fort Peck Community College. The direction of the fire was moving west, burning trees planted between the two homes.

Montana Dakota Utilities were called to shut off the electricity and the gas lines to the home.

After about an hour, most of the house was destroyed.

The cause of the fire is still unclear.

The house was owned by the late Jenine Decoteau, who passed away December 27, 2019. Her sons JD and Tim Decoteau were residing there at the time. They are currently staying with relatives.
