The Fort Peck Tribes have representation on two organizations responsible for restoring stolen indigenous human remains in the name of science.

Dyan Youpee was chosen to represent the Fort Peck Tribes on the Smithsonian Institution National Museum of Natural History Native American Reparation Review Committee.

After being appointed to the national committee, Youpee was also voted to sit on the Montana State Burial Preservation Board on behalf of the Tribes.

Youpee is the director of the Tribes Cultural Resources Department and in recent years she has been working to have certain cultural artifacts and human remains returned to the Fort Peck Tribes.

According to their website, The Native American Repatriation Review Committee was established in 1990 by Congress to monitor and review the repatriation process at the Smithsonian, and to ensure the fair and objective consideration of all relevant evidence.

Upon the request of any affected party, the Committee will review findings of cultural affiliation and facilitate the resolution of any dispute concerning the repatriation of remains and objects.

The Native American Repatriation Review Committee was established by the National Museum of the American Indian Act. It consists of seven members appointed from nominations submitted by federally-recognized Native American tribes, and Native American, anthropological, and museum organizations. Two Review Committee members are required by law to be traditional Indian religious leaders.

The Review Committee monitors and reviews the repatriation process at the Smithsonian, ensuring the fair and objective consideration of all relevant evidence in the determination of Cultural Affiliation, according to the mission statement.

The second board Youpee is appointed to is the Montana State Burial Preservation Board to serve as the Fort Peck tribal representative. According to the Montana government website, the principal purposes of the Burial Preservation Board are to protect from disturbance or destruction human skeletal remains, burial sites, and burial materials found on state and private lands in Montana and to resolve claims for repatriation of human skeletal remains and funerary objects.

In recent years, Youpee was instrumental in having numerous items returned to the Fort Peck Tribes that were being held by the University of Montana.
